Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium workshops in Côte d’Ivoire
Following two successful workshops in Kenya and Uganda in August, members of the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium Access Team gathered together once again on 7 and 8 October, this time Côte d’Ivoire, for two full-day meetings.
The sessions were chaired by the Côte d’Ivoire Ministry of Health (Ministère de la santé et de l’hygiène publique) with the General Director for Health Services in attendance. In addition to the Ministry of Health, representatives from the following Consortium partners participated in the workshops:
- Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (UFHB)
- Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH)
- SCI Foundation (SCIF)
Key discussion points:
The main objective of the workshops was to have a technical meeting at country level to discuss various points raised during the virtual launch of the ADOPT program earlier this year. The following key points were discussed:
- Implementation research studies and design
- Implementation strategy development: review and assessment of existing platforms & delivery options for selection
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) structures, tools and resources for adaptation
Key outcomes:
The meetings featured presentations from various programs of the Ministry of Health, helping to fuel discussions regarding potential platforms for the integration of the new pediatric medication, once registered. Other key outcomes included:
- In-depth discussions to achieve workshop outputs
- Social science and social mobilization activities
- Implementation and M&E plans, platforms and selection of indicators, data collection tools and resources including relevant program information and resources
Next steps:
The Access team will now focus on finalizing the research protocol for the social science study, which is due to be submitted at the end of October. Another focus will be the completion of the Implementation Strategy and M&E framework.
