World NTD Day 2021 and the launch of the new WHO NTD road map
On 30 January 2021, communities around the world will rally together to observe the second annual World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day. As a project focused on making a meaningful contribution to NTD research, the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium is proud to show its support.
This year, we not only celebrate the progress made to date in the fight against NTDs, we also celebrate the launch of the new and much-anticipated World Health Organization (WHO) NTD road map – a significant milestone in the global fight to beat NTDs. Following the incredible progress made with the implementation of the first road map, which expired on 31 December 2020, the Consortium welcomes the goals set out in the new road map. We look forward to contributing to the actions needed to meet the 2030 targets with our particular focus on progressing our program to reduce the global disease burden caused by schistosomiasis.
Targeting 20 diseases, the road map is structured around three key pillars that will support global efforts to control, eliminate and eradicate NTDs. A formal digital launch event will take place on Thursday 28 January 2021, adding momentum to the 30 January celebration of World NTD Day.
