World Health Day 2021: Building a fairer, healthier world

News News

Today, 7 April, is World Health Day. Celebrated annually to mark the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO), World Health Day draws attention to a specific health challenge of global concern.

The theme for this year is “Building a fairer, healthier world” – selected as a result of the social and health inequalities that have been exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The call to action for leaders is to work together, beyond national borders, to tackle the root causes of health disparities and increase investment in primary health care.

As an international partnership working to reduce the global disease burden of schistosomiasis, an important tropical diseases in terms of public health burden and economic impact, the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium heeds the call to action to mark this important day.

And make sure to join us on 21 April as we host a webinar to celebrate the launch of our ADOPT program – an implementation research program that paves the way for the large-scale delivery of a child-friendly formulation to treat schistosomiasis in preschool-age children in endemic countries.

The event features an expert line-up of speakers including Dr Mwelecele Ntuli Malecela, Director of the WHO Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
