Recent Consortium meetings
It’s been a busy period of meetings over the last couple of months, with the Consortium bringing together partners, collaborators, and key external stakeholders to strengthen relationships and explore new ways of working. We look back at the key events to date and their outcomes.
World Health Assembly
The 76th World Health Assembly took place in Geneva towards the end of May. A delegation from the Consortium was present to host a side meeting to showcase our ongoing work in addressing the treatment gap for preschool-aged children with schistosomiasis. The meeting covered the following topics:
- An introduction to the Consortium and our clinical development program
- An overview of our country implementation program, ADOPT, highlighting the involvement of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa
- A discussion on future access to our potential new treatment option, the need for country-level support, our local manufacturing efforts, and our existing partnership with countries in Sub-Saharan Africa
Time was also made for discussions around overall health system policies & strategies, specifically with regard to Child Health and Neglected Tropical Diseases.
The meeting helped strengthen our relationship with in-country representatives and pave the way for continued fruitful engagement.
Weight-based Expert Meeting
In June, the Consortium hosted a two-day expert meeting in Utrecht in the Netherlands looking at tools and approaches for weight-based drug dosing in resource-constrained settings.
Representatives from UNICEF, the World Health Organization, Florida Atlantic University, Health Data Synthesis Institute, and the Medicines for Malaria Venture joined the discussion and offered their advice. Several Consortium partners and collaborators from Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal were also in attendance.
The meeting served to share experiences and assess potential weight-based dosing solutions to apply to pediatric populations in sub-Saharan Africa. Discussions also focused on the feasibility, accuracy, acceptance, and training needs for the practical application of the tools.
The meeting was a great example of collaboration and partnership. We look forward to continuing to work together to find the best way forward for treating the very young children in need.
