Charting the Path Ahead: Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium Meets in Abidjan
Last week, the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium convened in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for a two-day face-to-face meeting hosted by the Ministry of Health, Côte d’Ivoire and Consortium coordinating partner, Lygature.
Consortium partners and key stakeholders from across the globe came together to review progress and chart the next steps toward improving access to the new pediatric treatment for schistosomiasis in preschool-aged children.
Discussions focused on progress updates from the Consortium’s ADOPT pilot and implementation studies in Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda and Kenya. We also heard valuable insights from representatives from additional countries: Tanzania, Senegal, and Ghana where schistosomiasis is endemic. Furthermore, the Consortium exchanged on manufacturing, technology transfer, procurement pathways, and future policy and strategy frameworks to enable national-level uptake of the new treatment for preschoolers.
The meeting provided an important platform for knowledge exchange, building on a shared commitment to reduce the burden of schistosomiasis that currently affects millions of preschool-aged children.
