Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium to present its development program in Brazil

Elly Kourany-Lefoll and Daniel Lacerda de Oliveira will participate as invited speakers at the 15th International Symposium on Schistosomiasis on August 1-3 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

The global health and scientific schistosomiasis community will shorty meet in Rio de Janeiro at the occasion of the 15th International Symposium on Schistosomiasis.  This Symposium represents the main scientific conference of the year devoted uniquely to this disease.  Under the theme of ‘elimination of schistosomiasis as a public health problem’, it will cover a range of topics that go from innovations (in genomics, immunopathology, biochemistry, molecular biology and epidemiology) to recent progresses in diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium will play an important role at the symposium. Daniel Lacerda de Oliveira (from Farmanguinhos, Brazil) and the Program Lead, Elly Kourany-Lefoll (from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany) will talk about the program on August 2nd, sharing information about the process development and manufacturing of the pediatric orodispersible tablet formulation and providing an update on the clinical data and next steps to regulatory approval and access, respectively.  Please refer to the program of the conference for more information:  http://vppcb.fiocruz.br/symposium-schisto/pages/programacao_en

The Consortium partners’ booths throughout the event will also create the opportunity to further engage in the dialogue with the scientific community while increasing awareness on the Pediatric PZQ formulation program.

In concomitance with this symposium, a series of meetings organized by the Consortium partners, Fiocruz/Farmanguinhos and Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and involving local representation will be the occasion to foster the role of the Consortium in contributing to the control and elimination agenda for schistosomiasis.
