Gathering momentum - The Consortium at conferences

Partners in the Pediatric Praziquantel (PZQ) Consortium have maintained a strong presence at international conferences during the last year – communicating progress on development of the pediatric formulation of PZQ. A key goal has been to maintain and develop dialogue with experts and...

Early this year, Consortium partner Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany) co-organized and hosted an International Scientific Workshop on “Female Genital Schistosomiasis and its impact on HIV/AIDS” (South Africa). Consortium team members took part in this workshop, and also in the Keystone Symposia on “Co-infection: A Global Challenge for Disease Control” (Brazil). Both meetings brought together world leaders in the field of neglected diseases, allowing the team to interact and present the program’s objectives and progress.

“Participants showed a lot of interest on our project,” said Renata Braga, Regulatory Affairs team member and speaker at the Keystone Symposia. “It was a great opportunity to be in contact with experts who deal, on a daily basis, with infected children in endemic areas. Hearing from them how important it is to treat the disease at a very early age, and noticing their interest in having the new orodispersable tablet formulation available in the coming years, was very motivating.”

The Consortium was recently represented at the BSP Spring Forum (UK), at the Societé Camerounaise de Parasitologie (Cameroon), and at ISTND (UK), and will continue to be very active through its attendance, booths and presentations at a number of forthcoming events (e.g. International Symposium on Schistosomiasis in August, ECTMIH 2015 in September, ASTMH in October). Everyone involved is committed to ongoing exchange, and to fostering all interactions needed to reach the common goal: ‘elimination of schistosomiasis.’
